Soderberg electrode paste, often referred to simply as Soderberg paste, is a crucial component in the production of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Named after its inventor, Swedish engineer Carl Wilhelm Soderberg, this specialized carbon-based paste plays an instrumental role in the smelting process.

 

Soderberg electrode paste consists of a blend of carefully selected materials, including calcined anthracite coal, petroleum coke, and coal tar pitch. Through a meticulous manufacturing process, these ingredients are combined to form a homogeneous mixture, which is then extruded into various shapes and sizes.

In the electrolytic reduction process, they act as a cathode, facilitating the extraction of pure aluminum from alumina dissolved in a molten bath.
